about us

Brooks' Machine Products has been a family business for generations and will continue for many more to come.

Brooks' Machine Products Limited was established in 1946 when Fay Brooks, a pressroom supervisor at a subsidiary of Bendix, in Sidney, NY, started a company to support and produce his own inventions.

Through the 1960's, Fay built up a respectable machining business and even expanded to a new larger facility just up the street from the original building on Martinbrook Street in Unadilla.

In summer 1970, Fay passed away and his son Walter took over as president of the small company. Over the next decade, Walter worked very hard to build up the company and broaden the customer base.

By the 1980s, Brooks' Machine Products included a host of new capabilities, including stamping, forming, drilling, milling and turning, and some sheet metal fabrication. Brooks' Machine Products was now a full service machine shop, doing work for major area businesses such as Bendix (now Amphenol Aerospace Corporation in Sidney, NY), Custom Electronics (Oneonta, NY), Universal Instruments (Binghamton, NY), as well as national companies such as Teledyne Continental Motors (Florida, Alabama, et al).

In the mid-1980s, Walter bought and rebuilt a larger building next door to the original place of business. Shortly afterwards, Walter's son Brad returned from school in Texas, where he had majored in Architectural Design and Engineering, working with personal computers and CAD (computer aided design/drafting). Brad began working in the family business, becoming a third-generation machinist.

Brad embraced the newer electronic machinery and computers, and Brooks' Machine Products became one of the first machine shops in the area to have a Wire EDM Machine (Electrical Discharge Machine), and to offer CNC turning and milling.

Today, Brooks' Machine Products continues its pioneering work in the region and beyond. The company is a national leader in aerospace stamping and forming, as well as machining of all kinds including precision fabrication, brazing, soldering, and welding.

And, though the company may ship precision parts across the nation and around the globe, it keeps firm roots in its community. Brooks' Machine Products is never too busy to help a local farmer or tradesman with a smaller task, and has been a Unadilla Chamber of Commerce Member in good standing since the UCC's inception in 1962.

Walter Brooks has been at the helm for more than 40 years along with his wife, Edna, who is the company's bookkeeper. Walter's son Brad has worked for Brooks' Machine since 1987 and assumed a leadership position in 2008. Brad is very active in the community, as a Past President of the Unadilla Rotary (along with Walt) and serves on various boards and governing bodies in the tri-county area.
